What is Qriyo?

Qriyo is India’s 1st Managed Home Tuition App. With Qriyo no need to browse through endless profiles, hassle and haggle. We provide one perfect Tutor in a Tap. With Qriyo app you can find Home Tutors for School Tuitions, competition Exams Yoga, Music, Dance, Art & Crafts and Languages. We aim to build a brand of quality home tutors (Qriyo Gurus) in this $10 billion home tuition market which is cluttered with small agencies and discovery platforms. A home tutor passes through a rigorous process of evaluation, verification, and training to emerging as Qriyo Guru. We have developed an evolved evaluation and matchmaking algorithm to attain more than 95% conversion ratio on demos.

We’re are currently live in following cities of India : Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Pali. 

Tell us more about your team ?

Mudit and Rishabh both IIT Bombay graduates, started Qriyo in early 2016. Mudit is currently serving as CEO and is also heading product development. He was heading the India division of Finmechanics as Country Head. After graduating, he worked with consulting arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) US in the areas of strategy and analytics. Rishabh is serving as COO to steer Qriyo operations to 6 sigma quality. Words that best describe Rishabh are businessman, civil engineer and poet. He is a published author and was associated with various startups in past,

Qriyo, which started from small city of Jodhpur, became first startup from Rajasthan to raise foreign investment at seed level. They quickly expanded their footprint in many cities and now operate in Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Surat, Udaipur and Ajmer. 

Qriyo’s head office is in Jaipur We have a 22 member tech, sales and marketing team. We are fortunate to have such a passionate team. We have people from diverse background and 10+ cities. We have a challenging work environment. We encourage everyone to learn and grow. 

How did you come up with the idea ?​​

Couple of years back, Mudit was planning to do a yoga course in Mumbai. He searched online to find a good yoga teacher. What the search gave him were dozens of phone numbers. of these, some didn’t respond, some responses were not fruitful, many didn’t want to come over to his house and others wanted a hefty sum of money.

He soon realised that the current market is filled with online listing portals or offline tuition agencies, both clearly not fulfilling student’s need. With an online marketplace finding the right tutor is very is lengthy process. You get 100s of profiles of possible matches, but you need to call them, haggle for pricing, time etc. Many a times they are not actively teaching or are tuition agents. Since online portals do not track transaction, authenticity of reviews is also questionable. On the other hand, local tuition agencies lack scale & technology. A single tuition agency cannot fulfil all your learning needs in all areas of city

That’s how idea of Qriyo shaped. We wanted to build a platform which is reliable, trustworthy and without hassle. We provide only one perfect home tutor for any requirement, that too on fixed price. Since we track complete cycle of tuition all our reviews, ratings etc are authentic. 

What problem are you solving ?

At Qriyo we are solving 4 major problems.

1. Discovery: Finding a single perfect tutor is very difficult amongst endless online profiles. Qriyo provides one perfect tutor for one requirement. Our matchmaking algorithm filter out 'The Perfect Tutor' for you.

2. Reliability: Reviews and ratings on online portals are seldom fake, since they can not and do not track the transaction and delivery. With Qriyo all ratings and reviews are authentic as we tracks end to end home tuition delivery.

3. Trust: With features like replacement guarantee, Qriyo E-wallet both customers and tutors feel secure. We take the payment in advance and release only after classes are over, protecting the interest of tutors and customers.

4. Real Time performance review: With the test for every topic built inside Qriyo app, students can track their performance real time and tutors can improvise accordingly.

Most urban parents lack time and are looking for assisted buying experience. Qriyo provides them with only one perfect tutor profile, for one requirement. That too at fixed price. 

How does it work ?

How do you select tutors? How do you onboard them? How Tutor quality is ensured? 

We take pride in quality of our tutors. On an average we select only 10% tutors from those who apply. A tutor has to pass through 3 stage filtration process i.e. app install & social media verification, subject and psychometric test, followed by Document verification. Once the tutor is onboards the system they are called Qriyo Guru. A perfect guru is selected using Qriyo’s match making algorithm. Matchmaking algorithm takes multiple factors into consideration, such as test score, past record, customer rating, punctuality etc. 

What is your target market ?

Our focus market is K-8, school tuitions. But we get lot of requirement for Yoga, Music and spoken english as well. We are focusing on spreading our footprint to more tier 2 cities. 

How do you plan to market your product? What are your customer acquisition strategies ?

Today most of the student come organically or via reference. We also deploy some online marketing strategies in the cities we operate in. The major challenge is retention and return customer. We are getting a healthy retention rate of 70% M-O-M. For that we focus on our service quality and tutor selection. We also provide many value added services to our students such as Qriyo Quiz, App support, attendance portal, replacement and easy payment options. Tutors who are associated with us in long run also get various benefits. Tutors are promoted as Maha Guru, Param Guru and receive attractive cash benefits. 

Why the name Qriyo? Is there a reason behind it?

The name of a brand is very important, as people remember a brand by its name. Brand name should be simple, easy to remember and unique. It should have a meaning or tell a story. Qriyo is pronounced as Kriyo. It is derived from Hindi word ‘Kriya’ which means Activity. We wanted to bring comfort of learning be it activities or academics at home, that’s how Qriyo name was finalised. What is the revenue model ?

Qriyo is India’s first managed home tuition app. We provide one perfect tutor for any particular home tuition need. We provide tutors for Academics, Yoga, Dance, music and languages. Once a student raise a request via Qriyo app, one perfect tutor profile is matched by our matchmaking algorithm. Student can take a demo and finalize the tutor. We have 90%+ demo satisfaction rate, but in case student does not like the demo, tutor is replaced.

Qriyo gets revenue by charging Qriyo Gurus. We do not charge any additional amount from students.

Home Tuition market is still largely offline, How does your app solves the issue?

The current home tuition market is largely driven by references or home tuition agencies. The online listing portals have again become flooded with agents and unprofessional tutors. Hence students are looking for better alternate. Also for tutors it is much more reliable platform. They do not have to pay per lead. They only have to pay once the tuition is confirmed


What do you want to achieve from this? What is your larger goal or vision ?

We entered the market with 2 long term goals, improve one-on-one personalised learning space and provide job opportunities to educated, talented youth of country. Through this initiative we are not only providing regular income to educated youth but supporting lot of artists , practitioners of Yoga, Dance, Music by providing them with regular classes.
